USS "Barrier" (AM-150) was an built for the
U.S. Navy duringWorld War II . She was built to clear minefields in offshore waters, and served the Navy in thePacific Ocean before being given to theSoviets under theLend-Lease program.She was laid down on
7 December 1942 atTampa, Florida , by theTampa Shipbuilding Company, Incorporated; launched on23 February 1943 ; sponsored by Mrs. Eugenie Bradford, wife of Lieutenant L. M. Bradford, Assistant Technical Officer (Hull) at the builder's yard; and commissioned on10 May 1944 , Lt. Donald T. Ehrmann,USMC , in command.World War II Pacific Theatre operations
Following outfitting and shakedown training, "Barrier" transited the
Panama Canal late in July and made a stop atSan Francisco, California , early in August before beginning duty inAlaska n waters on14 August . The minesweeper performedconvoy escort and minesweeping duties in theAleutian Islands for the next 11 months.Transfer to the Soviets
On
18 July 1945 , "Barrier" was decommissioned atCold Bay, Alaska , and was simultaneously transferred to theSoviet Navy under lend lease. The Soviets retained her since that time. "Barrier" was carried on the American Navy List as MSF 150 after7 February 1955 until struck on1 January 1983 . She was believed to have been scrapped in the Soviet Union in 1956.References
