Länsisatama (Finnish for "western harbour") is a cargo and container
harbour in theJätkäsaari district ofHelsinki ,Finland , in the southwestern part of the Helsinginniemi peninsula. The Länsisatama harbour area also includes the Munkkisaaren laituri pier on the west side ofMunkkisaari , used by cruiseliners.The Länsisatama passenger terminal is used mainly by passenger ships from Helsinki to
Tallinn ,Estonia . When the container traffic in Länsisatama is moved to theVuosaari harbour in 2008, there are plans to build a new residential area for 15 thousand inhabitants in Jätkäsaari.Immediately next to Länsisatama, in the Munkkisaari quarter, there is the
Aker Finnyards shipyard in Hietalahti. However, it is not counted as part of the harbour area of Länsisatama.Länsisatama is also the 20th neighbourhood of the city, extending around the harbour.
