Arravonitsa

Aravonitsa or Arravonitsa (Greek: ), also with the second a accented is a Greek village located about west of Aigio, Corinth and Athens, north-northwest of Kalavryta and east of Patras. The GR-9 (Patras - Pyrgos - Kyparissia is to the east. Aravontisa had a 2001 population of was 198 for the village and 262 for the municipal district. Aravonitsa is also in the municipality of Erineos. Its main industry is agriculture with some other services.

Geography

Aravonitsa situated in the valley area, the mountains covers the area, forests are in its valleys and its slopes and grasslands and bushes are in the uppermost area. Its main production are fruits including watermelon, melon, figs and vegetables including corn, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, cucumbers and others as well as dairy, livestock, olives and others. The majority of the population are based in other businesses as well as agriculture.

Aravonitsa has approximately 6 to 8 km of paved road and 10 to 15 km of gravel roads. Aravonitsa also has approximately 6 to 8 km of hydro lines as well as phone lines.

Houses were stone-built until the 1950s and did not surpass modern-style homes until the 1980s. It was linked with pavement in the 1980s. Most of the homes are abandoned today.

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, much of the population left for larger towns and cities especially the nearby Patras. The population declined since 1981.

Aravonitsa has a school, a nearest school gymnasium (secondary school), five churches, and a square. Its nearest hospital is the Agios Andreas Hospital in eastcentral Patras.
