L.J. Alleman Middle School is a public middle school in Lafayette, Louisiana located at 600 Roselawn Boulevard. L.J. Alleman is the Fine Arts Academy for the Lafayette Parish School System. The school was built in 1959 under school board superintendent Robert Lee Browne. The school is named after Leness Joseph Alleman who served as the eighth superintendent of the Lafayette Parish School System from 1901 to 1907 then again from 1912 to 1918.Currently, L.J. Alleman is an "Arts Academy" where students pick 1-2 fine arts electives, depending upon their academic performance. The electives are: Visual Arts, Theater, Band, Strings, Guitar, and Dance. For children with special academic needs, there is also power reading. French is an elective as well, for students who don't qualify for bilingual classes (French and English in a 90 min. block.)
