Malakai (band)

Malakai are a two-piece band from Bristol, England. They comprise of Gee (vocals) and Scott (music). Their sound is a mix of beats and samples, drawing on a wide range of influences from dub to sixties pop, all tied together by Gee’s distinctive voice.fact|date=August 2008

Discovered by Geoff Barrow from the Bristol based band, Portishead, to date Malakai have released a limited edition [gramophone record| [12”] on Barrow’s Invada Records record label, called "Fading World". This track was used as the music to accompany the "I Count: Stop Climate Chaos" videoFact|date=November 2007 that first aired at the 2007 Glastonbury Festival. Directed by award winning Gerald McMorrow, the film features many celebrities stating their support for Stop Climate Chaos, including Richard Coyle, Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell, and Sophia Myles.

"Fading World" was followed by their major label debut "EP 1" on Island Records in September 2007. The lead track from "EP 1", entitled "The Battle" was BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe's "Single of the Week" for the week commencingh 9 July 2007. The song was made available to buy digitally in July 2007. On 30 July 2007, "The Guardian" newspaper featured Malakai as their "New band of the day' [cite web

The band got a break on the "Lily Allen And Friends" television programme, as they were voted in to play the show out.
