Guy Saint-Pierre, CC (born
August 3 ,1934 ), is a retired Canadian politician and businessman.Background
Born in Windsor Mills, Quebec, he was the son of Armand Saint-Pierre and Alice Perra. Saint-Pierre graduated from
Université Laval with a B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering in 1957. He obtained an M.Sc. from theUniversity of London in 1959 and holds a D.I.C. (Diploma of the Imperial College) from theImperial College London . In 1959, Saint-Pierre joined the army as an officer in the Corps of Royal Canadian Engineers at Camp Gagetown, New Brunswick.Political career
He was elected to the
National Assembly of Quebec in the 1970 election in Verchères as a Liberal and re-elected in Chambly in the 1973 election. He served for two years as Minister of Education and from 1972 to 1976 as Minister of Industry and Trade.Saint-Pierre lost his bid for re-election in the 1976 election against
Parti Québécois candidateDenis Lazure .Retirement from politics
In 1978, he was appointed president and general manager of Ogilvie Mills Ltd, becoming president and chief executive officer in 1980.
From January 1989, Saint-Pierre was president and chief executive officer of the SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. In 1996 he became chairman of the board, retiring in 2002.
In 1992 he was made a member of the
Order of Canada and in 2002 he was promoted to officer.Saint-Pierre holds honorary degrees from
Concordia University , Université Laval,École des Hautes Études Commerciales of theUniversité de Montréal ,Université de Sherbrooke , theUniversity of Ottawa and leCollège militaire royal de Saint-Jean Saint-Pierre and his wife, Francine Garneau, live in
