List of Water Rats characters

The following is a list of characters from the television series Water Rats.

Main characters

Frank Holloway

He was portrayed by Colin Friels. He appeared in the series between 1996 and 1999. He was one of the two original main characters. He left the show due to cancer.

Rachel Goldstein

She was portrayed by Catherine McClements. She appeared in the series between 1996 and 1999. She and Frank Holloway were the two original main characters in the series and shared a close bond. However she and Jack had a fling but she never got the chance to tell him she loved him; After she was killed off from the series in 1999, ratings began to decline and the series was cancelled two years later.

Jack Christey

He was portrayed by Steve Bisley. Jack was in the series from 1999 to 2001. In the Water Rats series finale, Jack was shot and although unknown, he probably died as Steve Bisley was leaving the series if it continued for another season and it did.

Michael Reilly

He was portrayed by Aaron Pedersen. He appeared in the series between 1999 and 2001. his storylines mostly involved his flings with other characters namely Alex St Clare and Suzie Abromavitch.

Alex St. Clare

Alex St. Clare appeared between 2000 and 2001. She was portrayed by Dee Smart. She came into the series to replace Rachel Goldstein and stayed until the series ended.

Supporting Characters

Jeff Hawker

Jeff Hawker was one of the only three characters to be in all 6 series. In series 1 he was a senior segant and then became chief inspector for the rest of the series after Clarke Webb left.

Clarke Webb

Clarke Webb was the Chief Inspector in series one, and left the rats later in series one and Jeff Hawker became chief inspector

Tommy Tavita

Senior Constable Tommy Tavita was on the water rats from series 1 to 5. He was on on long service leave and was never seen after. Tavita was partnered with Gavin Sykes and Fiona Cassidy from series 1 to 2, and Gavin Sykes and Taylor Johnson from series 2 to 4. Tavita was replaced by Matthew Quinn later in series 5.

Gavin Sykes

He was portrayed by Brett Partidge. He appeared in the series from 1996 to 2001.

Helen Blakemore

She was portrayed by Toni Scanlan. She was one of three characters to appear in the series from when it started in 1996 to when it ended in 2001. The fact that she was a lesbian was one of her major storylines.

Dave McCall

Dave McCall was a senior sergant/diver in the water rats from series 1 to 4. In series 6 everyone found out that he was found dead on his toilet from a heart attack.

Terry Watson

Fiona Cassidy

Senior Constable Fiona Cassidy was on the water rats on series one and two. In series Two she resigns and is replaced by constable Taylor Johnson.

Tayler Johnson

Constable Taylor Johnson was on the water rats from series 2 to 4. She was partnered with Gavin Sykes and Tommy Tavita on the nemesis. In series 3 she was shot and almost died. On the finale of series 4 Taylor Johnson leaves the water rats along with Senior sergant Dave McCall.

Emma Woods

Emma was one of the divers in the series. She was on the water from series 3 to 6. She had a brief fling with Michael Riley, but it ended by the end of the series

Colin "Chopper" Lewis

Matthew Quinn

Matthew worked with his partner Gaven Sykes, the two ran the main water police boat called the "nemesis" Quinn was on the water rats from series 5 to 6 and replaced Tommy Tavita.

ophie Ferguson

Lance Rorke

Senior Sergant Lance Rorke was a diver from series 5 to 6. He replaced senior sergant Dave McCall after series 4. In series 6 he gets crushed by a shipping container and dies in the hospital leaving the rats devastated.

Donna Janevski

Constable Donna Janevski was on the water Rats from series 5 to 6. She replaced Taylor Johnson and work at the desk.

David Goldstein

David was the son of Rachel Goldstein and her divorced lawyer husband Johnathan. He appeared every now and again. His "mother" really loved him and he was her last thought as she died in Christey's arms.Not seen much afterwards.
