Tom Mulcahy

Tom Mulcahy

Tom Mulcahy was an Irish sportsperson who played hurling with the Cork senior inter-county team throughout the 1940s.

Mulcahy first came to prominence in 1941 as a member of the Cork minor hurling team. That year he won a Munster minor title, as well as an All-Ireland title at this level. In 1943 Mulcahy joined the Cork senior hurling team. He won his first senior Munster title that year before later collecting his first senior All-Ireland medal following a victory in the final over Antrim. The following year Mulcahy captured a second Munster title, before later adding a second All-Ireland medal to his collection following a defeat of Dublin. Cork lost their provincial crown in 1945, however, the team returned in 1946 with Mulcahy winning a third Munster medal. This was subsequently converted into a third All-Ireland medal following a huge victory over Kilkenny in the final. Buckley added a National Hurling League medal to his collection in 1947, before winning a fourth Munster title. Unfortunately, Cork were later defeated by Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final.
