During the 1960s and 1970s , the station had been Top 40 WELK , originally at 1010 kilohertz, where they used the slogan "Where The Tens Come Together" , later moving to it's present 1400 kilohertz location in the 1970s .The late Dick Mountjoy was a longtime personality on WELK ,along with future WWDC, Washington DC jock Ernie Kay , and Bruce Kelly , later of WPGC Washington , B94 Pittsburg , and a longtime Phoenix Arizona Morning Personality. Nationally syndicated radio host
Dick Bartley also worked at WELK during the seventies.On 1/07/80 , the calls changed to WXAM, and finally on 3/19/84 the calls became WKAV. During the 1980s and 1990s, the station slowly evolved from a music to a talk format and finally to it's present sports format .

July 10 th,2007 , [http://www.vartv.com VARTV.com] reported that Kalil and Company Inc announced that it brokered a deal for Clear Channel to sell its entire Charlottesville cluster to George Reed's Sistema 102 LLC for $7.75 Million. Sistema 102 LLC changed it's name to Monticello Media on September 1st, 2007.External links
