Ajjampura (PIN-577547) is a small town and a hobli headquarters in Tarikere Taluk in the district of Chikmagalur, Karnataka, India. Ajjampura is probably the second largest town in Tarikere Taluk.Fact|date=July 2008

Ajjampura has a [http://chickmagalur.nic.in/htmls/sp_main.htm Police Sub-Inspector's Office] , two movie theatres (touring talkies), a Veterinary Hospital, and is home to the 'Amrithamahal' cattle breeding station.

Transportation

Ajjampura is located at a crossroads and one can travel by road to Tarikere, Birur, Bukkambudhi, and Hosadurga. There is also a railway station, from where one can travel to Bangalore and Davangere.

Ajjampura Railway Station falls within the 'Mysore Division' of the 'South Western Railway Zone' of 'Indian Railways'. Several passenger trains make a stop at this Railway Station. From here, one can catch direct trains to go to places like Bangalore or Davangere. The other closest railway stations are Birur (towards Bangalore) and Shivani (towards Chikkajajur).

History

Although not much is known about the history of this town, it is believed that the place was originally known as "Keral".An account of this can be found in "Mysore: A Gazetteer Compiled for Government by Benjamin Lewis Rice" (First published in London in 1887). Taluk Status

There have been attempts to get taluk status to Ajjampura hobli. Such efforts have been justified by the population size and the location of Shivani and Ajjampura hoblis.
