Breweries in Philadelphia

Breweries in Philadelphia brew beer in the Delaware Valley, which includes the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and its suburbs. There are currently three major brewers in the area.

Flying Fish Brewing Company, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey (about seven miles east of Philadelphia), is the largest craft brewer in New Jersey. Flying Fish produces Belgian Abbey Dubbel, Porter, English Special Bitter Ale, Extra Pale Ale, and many seasonal brews.

Philadelphia Brewing Co. is located at 2439 Amber St. in the Kensington neighborhood of the city. Philadelphia Brewing Co. brews Kenzinger, Walt Wit, Newbold IPA, and Rowhouse Red. The 40,000 square foot building is the original home of the Weisbrod and Hess brewery and was built in 1885.

Victory Brewing is located in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Victory is arguably the area's most successful brewery. Victory's most popular beers include Hop Devil IPA, Golden Monkey Triple, and Prima Pils. Popular seasonals include Whirlwind Wit, Old Horizontal Barely Wine, Storm King Stout, Moonglow Weizenbock, Sunrise Weiss, Sunset Dunkelweise, Workhorse Porter, Uncle Teddy's Bitter, and ESB.

Yards Brewing Company was established in 1994. Yards is located at 901 Delaware Ave. Its lineup currently includes Philadelphia Pale Ale, IPA, ESA and Brawler. The brewery also produces seasonal beers such as Love Stout, Saison, Trubbel De Yards and Old Ale. Yards also produces a line of Revolutionary Ales in conjunction with the City Tavern. These include Thomas Jefferson Tavern Ale, General Washington Tavern Porter and Poor Richards Tavern Spruce.

Brewpubs, combination brewery-restaurants, and smaller-scale brewpubs include Triumph Dock Street, General Lafayette, Iron Hill, Manayunk, Nodding Head, Red Bell, Rock Bottom, Sly Fox, and Triumph.

Local beer writers include Joe Sixpack, Lew Bryson, Jack Curtin, and George Hummel.
