The Industrial University of Selangor (Abbreviation: UNISEL; _ms. Universiti Industri Selangor) is a private university operating from two campuses in Selangor.

History

UNISEL was established on August 23 1999 as the first state funded private university in Malaysia [Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad: [http://www.kdeb.com/index.php?p=education-unisel Education - UNISEL] ] with the aim of providing world-class tertiary education and opportunities for research and development within the broad sphere of industrial technology, management as well as information and communications technology. It began operations from a temporary campus in Shah Alam until its main campus in the township of Bestari Jaya, approximately 50km away from the federal capital of Kuala Lumpur, was completed in 2005. UNISEL now operates from both the Shah Alam and Bestari Jaya campuses UNISEL: [http://www.unisel.edu.my/history-of-unisel.html History of UNISEL] ] .

Organization and administration

UNISEL is wholly owned and managed by the State Government of Selangor through Pendidikan Industri YS Sdn. Bhd. (PIYS), a subsidiary of the state-owned investment arm, Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad and established under the provisions of the [http://www.agc.gov.my/agc/oth/Akta/Vol.%2012/Act%20555.pdf Private Higher Education Institutions Act 1996] . It is one of the two institutions of higher education owned by the state government via PIYS, the other being INPENS International College [Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad: [http://www.kdeb.com/index.php?p=education Education] ] .

Chancellor

The first Chancellor of UNISEL was appointed on August 21 2006. The first person to hold this position is Rosmah Mansor, the wife of the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Tun Razak [cite news | first= | last= | coauthors= | title=Rosmah Installed As First Unisel Chancellor | date=2006-08-22 | publisher="Bernama" | url =http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v3/news_lite.php?id=215313 | work = | pages = | accessdate = 2008-07-23 | language = ] . Rosmah graduated from the University of Malaya with a degree in Anthropology and Sociology and later earned her Master of Science in Sociology from the Louisiana State University.

Campuses and faculties

Bestari Jaya

The main campus is located on a convert|1000|acre|km2|sing=on lot which is part of a convert|4000|acre|km2 piece of land which has been earmarked as the Selangor Educational Park . It is the location of the following faculties:
