Henley Fort is located in Guildford, England at the end of the 'Hog's back' ridge.
History
It was a Mobilization Centre that was Built during the 1880s as part of the London Defence Positions. It was to protect the capital in case of an invasion from the french army. To begin with the construction was fast because of the threat of invasion, but it slowed down as the threat pasted.It is the most Western fort in a 17 mile chain that would have formed a secondary line of defense if the French passed the defenses on the South coast, so that London and the Thames were more protected.Even though it's called a Fort it would never have men or ammo in it. It would hold meetings and train volunteers.
It was also used in the Second World War by the British Home Guard.
Present
Today Henley fort is a Educational Centre which may have residential Visits.
Once a year it is also the host of a charity music festival in August called Keilfest (See http://www.keilfest.com)to help Rais money for the Chase Children's Hospice.
