2006

Oakham Ales new 75 barrel brew house officially opened on Friday 13th October 2006 (It’s first commissioning brew was on April 1st 06). A large party of people consisting of brewers, industry guests, VIPs and the talented group responsible for the success of the project attended to see the opening ceremony conducted by the two partners, Paul Hook and John Bryan with lots of help from all of the Oakham staff. The symbolic padlock and chain was cut by John Wood, the original owner and brewer, who left Oakham Ales way back in 1995.

2007

New beers such as Asylum and Haka appearing in 2007 and the sole supply of real ale into the Latitude Festival in Suffolk under the guise of “Hektors Brewery”, which continues to this day. All of which were brewed on the new plant.

During 2007 the old 35 barrel plant based at The Brewery Tap was only used three times. The decision was therefore taken to sell this plant and install a smaller show piece brew house to do special or one-off brews was to be commissioned. With that the old brewery was sold and Industrial Techniques based in Suffolk were given the job in the closing days of December to fabricate a brand new 10HL (6 barrel) brew plant to incorporate a level of automation to match the new 75 barrel brew plant at Maxwell Road.

2008

The start of 2008 saw the launch of our fourth permanent beer “Inferno” and shortly after the new pump clip range based on our logo.

Spring and onwards saw the removal of the old brewery from Westgate, which was sold to our friends at Greenjack Breweryin Lowestoft. Late summer saw the final commissioning of the show piece brewery and the return of brewing at the Brewery Tap, after a gap of two years. On 10th October we had another party to celebrate the Brewery Taps 10th birthday, our Head Brewer’s (John Bryan) 20th year of brewing and the opening of the new brewery. Two new beers were added to the mix X-Terminator at 7.9% and Charlie Mouse at 9%, just to keep the wheels greased.

2009

The start of 2009 saw us get off to a great start with big wins at the SIBA East and National Competitions and being awarded CAMRA Supreme Champion Winter Beer of Britain with Attila!

January also saw the introduction of the Oakademy of Excellence with all of the exclusive specialty beers brewed on the brand-new brewery at the Brewery Tap plant.
