United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 5.0square mile s (13.0km² ), of which, 5.0 square miles (12.8 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (1.00%) is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 2,000 people, 1,014 households, and 650 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 403.0 people per square mile (155.7/km²). There were 1,226 housing units at an average density of 247.0/sq mi (95.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.05% White, 0.30% Black or African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. 1.05% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 1,014 households out of which 11.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.4% were married couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.8% were non-families. 32.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.96 and the average family size was 2.39.
In the city the population was spread out with 11.6% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 16.1% from 25 to 44, 30.0% from 45 to 64, and 38.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 59 years. For every 100 females there were 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $27,139, and the median income for a family was $34,219. Males had a median income of $23,125 versus $16,950 for females. The
per capita income for the city was $17,636. About 9.1% of families and 12.6% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 27.2% of those under age 18 and 9.3% of those age 65 or over.Government

The current police chief is Mike Armstrong.The full-time officers are Mike Armstrong, Randy Flippin and David Hotchkiss. The reserve officers are Gary Payton, John Thompson, Beth Sator, David Sator, and Sam McMaster. The fire chief is Brent Mitchel. The firefighters are Mike Griffith, Charles "Choppy" Halog, Ryan Markovitch, Lyle Butler, Beth Sator, and David Sator.
