June 20 ,1780 in North Carolina and was part of the southern campaign of theAmerican Revolutionary War . About 400 American militia soldiers defeated 1,300 loyalist militia soldiers. The battle did not involve any regular army forces from either side and was a battle literally between neighbors. It is very significant in that it lowered the morale of the loyalists in the south, which weakened the strength of the British.References
