Port Stephens Pythons

Port Stephens Pythons

Port Stephens Cricket Club was founded in 1987 by members of the Port Stephens Council. The Club was originally known as the "Port Stephens Council Cricket Club, or simply P.S.C.C.C. Over the years many other members joined external to council employees and the word "Council" within the title was eventually dropped to become the Port Stephens Cricket Club (P.S.C.C.). In 1998, the committee of the P.S.C.C. decided to entertain the idea of introducing coloured shirts into the Maitland One Day Cricket Competition. During the meeting held at the then Major Sponsor, "The Junction Inn Hotel", members of the committee tossed around ideas as to what mascot Port Stephens should adopt. A few options were laid down including Dolphins and Sharks due to the Port Stephens Title, until jokingly "Pythons" (resembling the male appendage) was uttered. Within 5 Mins the motion had been passed and Port Stephens Cricket Club would then go on to become the Port Stephens Pythons.

In 2006-2007 season the A-Grade side won the Major Premiership
