- High Fens
The High Fens are an upland area in the province of Liège, in
Belgium and nearby parts ofGermany , between theArdennes and theEifel highlands. Its highest point, at 694 mabove sea level , is theSignal de Botrange nearEupen , which is also the highest point in Belgium. A large part of the High Fens lies within the German-Belgian natural park "Hohes Venn-Eifel".The High Fens consist mainly of
moorland andforest , and stretch betweenEupen in the north,Monschau in the east, Spa in the west andMalmedy in the south. It is a very rainy (1500-1700 mm per year) and swampy region. Several rivers have their source in the Hautes Fagnes: theVesdre ,Hoëgne ,Warche ,Gileppe ,Eau Rouge , Amblève, Our,Kyll andRur . There are several artificial lakes in the region.It's possible to
ski in this area, well known for wintersport activities.
