Sisters of the Divine Savior
- Sisters of the Divine Savior
The Sisters of the Divine Savior is an order of Roman Catholic nuns co-founded on December 8, 1888 in Tivoli, by the Blessed Mary of the Apostles (Therese von Wüllenweber), (February 19, 1833 - December 25, 1907), (beatified by Pope Paul VI October 13, 1968 Rome), and Father Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan, who had also founded the Salvatorian Fathers and Brothers in 1881. Worldwide, the order has about 1200 sisters in 28 countries [ [http://www.congsds.org/GeneralChapter2006/en/jubi/zz_captions_window.php?3 Biography of Mary of the Apostles] ] including Germany, the United States, Australia and the Holy Land. Conventionally, the letters "S.D.S" are used to identify the order.
In the United States, the order is primarily associated with education, health care and advocacy for the vulnerable poor. It is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It operates Divine Savior Healthcare (including Divine Savior Hospital) in Portage, and in Milwaukee, Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, Hadley Terrace Senior Apartments and St. Anne’s Salvatorian Campus (a nursing home). The order collaborates with the Society of the Divine Savior and Lay Salvatorians in the Anti-Human Trafficking Project, which includes an informational web site and electronic newsletter. They also operate the Salvatorian Sisters Residence, a home for elderly members of the order.
