Astana (Latin : "Archidioecesis Sanctae Mariae in Astanansis") is an ecclesiastical territory ordiocese of theRoman Catholic Church inKazakhstan .Pope John Paul II erected it as the Apostolic Administration of Astana onJuly 7 ,1999 , and elevated it to the Archdiocese of Maria Santissima in Astana ("Mary Most Holy in Asanta") onMay 17 ,2003 , with the suffragan sees of Atyrau, Karaganda, and Santissima Trinità in Almaty.The archdiocese's motherchurch and thus seat of its archbishop is the
Cathedral of Our Mother of Perpetual Help . The first and current Archbishop of Maria Santissima in Astana is "His Excellency "Tomasz Peta , having been appointed by John Paul II onMay 17 ,1999 .
