(Aspredinidae )Erethistidae Sisoridae Sisoroidea is a superfamily of
catfish es (order Siluriformes). It contains the four familiesAmblycipitidae ,Akysidae ,Sisoridae , andErethistidae ; many sources also includeAspredinidae . With Aspredinidae, this superfamily includes about 42 genera and 230species .cite book|title=Fishes of the World |last=Nelson|first=Joseph S.|publisher=John Wiley & Sons , Inc|year=2006|isbn=0-471-25031-7]Taxonomy
Sisoroidea is sister to the
Loricarioidea . Themonophyly of this superfamily is supported by a number of morphological characters. Amblycipitidae is the most basal family and is sister to the remaining families. Based on morphological data, Erethistidae is the sister group to Aspredinidae, with Sisoridae being the sister group of theclade formed by these two families.cite journal|first=R.|last=Diogo|coauthors=Chardon, M.; Vandewalle, P.|year=2003|title=Osteology and myology of the cephalic region and pectoral girdle of "Erethistes pusillus", comparison with other erethistids, and comments on the synapomorphies and phylogenetic relationships of the Erethistidae (Teleostei: Siluriformes)|journal=Journal of Fish Biology|volume=63|issue=5|pages=1160–1175|doi=10.1046/j.1095-8649.2003.00235.x] However, it has been proposed to move the erethistid genera back into Sisoridae. Sisoroidea includes almost exclusively
Asia tic catfish families with the exception ofAspredinidae , which is native toSouth America .cite journal|url=http://digitallibrary.amnh.org/dspace/bitstream/2246/2802/1/N3437.pdf|title=The Second Ural Centrum in Siluriformes and Its Implication for the Monophyly of Superfamily Sisoroidea (Teleostei, Ostariophysi)|first=Mário C.
