Bishop Guilfoyle High School is a grade 9-12 private, Roman Catholic high school designed to provide its students with a comprehensive Catholic, pre-collegiate, career focused education in Altoona, Pennsylvania. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. As a ministry of the Diocese of Altoona - Johnstown, Bishop Guilfoyle is a Catholic private secondary school that challenges young men and women to strive for excellence in the total development of the Christian individual. The school works in collaboration with parents, whom it acknowledges as the primary educators of their children, to enhance their growth. It is a community that is founded and bonded across the generations by a rich tradition of Catholic identity and values.

The school's central goal is to provide a relevant, challenging, and value - centered education rooted in our Catholic faith. Through Gospel values, it educates its students to acquire critical thinking and problem solving strategies for lifelong learning that will place its graduates at the center of society. Through academic, spiritual, and co - curricular activities, all members of the community engage in mutual growth and fulfillment.

Numerous Masses, retreats and services are available to assure its commitment to its Catholic heritage. The academic curriculum at Bishop Guilfoyle includes pre-collegiate classes, honors classes, AP classes and dual enrollment classes affiliated with three (3) post-secondary institutions. Coursework in career focus areas provide the students with insight as to what they may wish to peruse as a career.

The extra-curricular programs include interscholastic sports, music, drama, forensics, yearbook, student council, and a variety of club activities. It has over 9,000 successful alumni and the class of 2007 was no exception. Approximately 90% of that class went on to higher education being offered over $2 million in academic scholarships.

In the 2006-07 season, the Lady Marauder's basketball team won the single A state championship at the Bryce Jordan Center and the District 6 single A championship. The girls team has gone to the state championships several times and have taken the gold trophy four times.

In 2007, the Bishop Guilfoyle football team won their section of the Laraul Highlands Athletic Conference, in their first year of play in it. The Bishop Guilfoyle Jr. High football team also finished 7-1 in their conference and tyied for second place and beat Keith Jr. High School for a 8-1 overall record.

Background

Bishop Guilfoyle was established in 1922 as Altoona Catholic High School.
