S. Gurumurthy

S. Gurumurthy( स.गुरूमूरति ) is the convenor of the स्वदेशी जागरण मंच (Swadeshi Jagaran Manch), which has affiliation to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

By profession Gurumurthy is a chartered accountant and a popular columist in Indian Express and The New Indian Express. Till the mid-1980s he was almost unknown to India. However, his series of articles in then Indian Express shifted the limelight on him. The articles were like expose of Reliance Industries Limited led by Dhirubhai Ambani. These articles were the basis for the bitter rivalry between Ramnath Goenka, establisher of Indian Express, and Dhirubhai Ambani. After the Reliance expose, Gurumurthy shifted his focus on the Bofors issue and later towards the Swadeshi Movement.Today many of his articles in The New Indian Express highlight the disadvantages of globalization and without giving the local corporation the level playing field. His articles espouse the cause of the Swadesh Jagran Manch and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the concept of a secular India.

Gurumurthy is known to have played a pivotal mediating role to resolve the feud between Bajaj Auto Ltd Chairman Rahul Bajaj and his younger brother Shishir (who controls Bajaj Hindustan Ltd and has a stake in Bajaj Auto and other group firms). [http://ia.rediff.com/money/2003/jun/17spec.htm]

He also played a major role in the transfer of L&T's cement division to Aditya Birla Group. In 2004 Gurumurthy also ended another corporate stalemate when he persuaded non-resident Indian investor C Sivasankaran to divest his 33 percent holding in the Tuticorin-based Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank for Rs 130 crore (Rs 1.3 billion).

He was even accused of misleading the police in the SankarRaman murder case. The book considered the views expressed in the article as the basis for complaint. [http://news.indiainfo.com/2005/02/12/1202seergurumurthy.html]
