4 Associations Tournament

4 Associations Tournament

The 4 Associations Tournament (also called Four Associations Tournament) is a future biennial international football tournament involving national football teams from the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. The tournament was initially proposed in 2006 [cite news |title=Sanchez wants Celtic tournament |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/6173603.stm |publisher=BBC Sport |date=2006-12-12 |accessdate=2007-11-27 ] and is to include the national teams of Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

It will be structured as a round robin league with home and away fixtures alternating between tournaments. The Welsh FA hold out the possibility of the English joining at a later date. In April 2008, it was announced the tournament had been delayed until 2011 at the earliest due to fixture congestion.
