"Hassar" species are distributed in
South America . "H. affinis" originates from theParnaíba River basin.FishBase species|genus=Hassar|species=affinis|year=2007|month=June] "H. orestis" is found in the Amazon, Orinoco andEssequibo River basins.FishBase species|genus=Hassar|species=orestis|year=2007|month=June] "H. wilderi" inhabits theTocantins River basin.FishBase species|genus=Hassar|species=wilderi|year=2007|month=June]Description
Like other doradids, "Hassar" species have a row of scutes on each side of their body, though they are more subdued. "Hassar" species grow to approximately 20–25
centimetre s (8–10 in) SL.In the aquarium
"Hassar" species are very rarely imported for the
aquarium hobby, and the most commonly imported species is "H. orestis". Care of this species is not straightforward; they are hard to acclimate if not in good condition at the point of sale. They are always wild caught. However, once settled in they are easier to care for. These fish should be provided with dense vegetation to feel comfortable. They are not aggressive, though smaller fish are very shy in the presence of larger fish.cite web|url=http://www.planetcatfish.com/cotm/cotm.php?article_id=92|title=PlanetCatfish::Catfish of the Month::November 2000|publisher=PlanetCatfish.com|date=2006-10-07|accessdate=2007-06-20]References
