Elaine Devry

Elaine Devry is an American actress (born on January 10, 1932) and is well known for her past marriage to actor Mickey Rooney.

Early life

Elaine Devry was born Thelma Elaine Mahnken, in Compton, California. She attended Compton Community College, and married her high school sweetheart, Dan Ducich, a Utah State basketball star, during this period. In 1949, Ducich was convicted of armed robbery in Los Angeles and placed on five years probation. The couple divorced in Butte, Montana. Some time around 1954 (when she was married to Mickey Rooney) Dan Ducich contacted her and asked her for money, as he had run into gambling trouble in Las Vegas, and the Mob was after him. Devry asked Mickey for some money to help Ducich, but he refused. A few months later, Ducich was killed by the Mob as the result of a shot to the head.

Marriage with Mickey Rooney

Devry and Rooney were married in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1952. Devry's father, Fred, resided with them as a handyman and gardener in their Woodland Hills, California home. In April 1956, they moved into a new house on Fryman Road. Rooney's unfaithfulness plagued their marriage. During a party at their new Fryman Road home, Devry hit Mickey across the mouth when she caught him trying to slip his phone number to an extra serving girl. On June 15, 1958, Devry and Rooney officially divorced.
