std1= |The Campolina horse breed of
Brazil is named after Cassiano Campolina, afarmer who began his horse breeding in the south ofMinas Gerais using stallions imported by D. João VI for the Coudelaria Real of Cachoeira do Campo.History
The Campolina breed dates back to 1840, where it was formed in
Entre Rios de Minas ,Minas Gerais inBrazil . It was developed by a farmer named Cassiano Campolina on his farm (Fazenda Tamque). In 1870, Mr. Campolina received a black mare named "Medéia" from a friend. The mare was Brazilian, and Campolina bred her to a pure Andalusianstallion that belonged to Mariano Procópio.Medéia had a
foal named "Monarca", which was dark gray, and a half blood Andalusian. Monarca, who served for 25 years in the herd of "Fazenda Tanque", is considered the founder of the Campolina breed. Other breeds that Campolina bred into his herd are: Anglo-Norman, Clydesdale,Holsteiner ,American Saddle Horse andMangalarga Marchador . The Mangalarga Marchador breed was used to refine the Campolina breed. The herdbook was closed in 1934 and the Breed Standard was created.References
