Harlan Lane

Harlan Lane

Harlan Lane is a professor of psychology and linguistics at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States. He specializes in research on Deaf culture and sign language. In 1991, Professor Lane received a MacArthur Foundation "genius award". He has become an often controversial spokesman for the Deaf community and critic of cochlear implants.

Dr. Lane's baccalaureate and master's degrees are in psychology from Columbia University. His Ph.D. is in psychology from Harvard University, where he studied under B. F. Skinner. He also holds a doctoral degree in linguistics from the University of Paris.

He is "Commandeur de l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques", the highest level of the academic honor given out by the French government.
