Ceedo

Ceedo is one of several "PC-on-a-USB-stick" applications developed by Israel-based Ceedo Technologies (2005) Ltd. The most widespread product based on this technology is Ceedo Personal, a consumer portable working environment for storage devices such as USB flash drives and pocket hard drives. A key difference between Ceedo and another similar product, U3, is that Ceedo does not require Windows applications to be modified in order for them to be allowed to be carried on the portable device.

Ceedo Technologies (2005) Ltd.

Based in Rosh HaYin, Israel, Dror Wettenstein founded Ceedo Technologies (2005) Ltd. in 2005. Virtualization technology in the drive has been developing since 2000.

Ceedo Personal

Ceedo Personal works like a portable operating system by allowing users to carry applications on portable media, running them inside a virtual environment. Using a simple interface called the Easy Access Menu, which resembles the Windows Start Menu, users can launch their applications and access their files as soon as they plug their storage device into a host computer. Since applications running under the Ceedo environment are separate from the host computer, there is no trace left behind once the user disconnects the device.

Ceedo Personal has a variety of software available to download from its Programs Directory. This is software that has been tested to work perfectly on the Ceedo Platform. There is an add-on product called Argo, available for a small charge, that allows the user to install any standard Windows application to their Ceedo device for potential use. In practice, however, any Argo-installed application that ties itself to a specific machine through product activation may not run successfully, or at all. For the savvy PC user, workarounds for these problems can be readily found on the Internet.

Even though Ceedo's "symbol" is its blue icon on its blue easy-access menu, there are branded versions with different color such as the dark Black-Brown FreeAgent by Seagate, or the light brown Ceedo by Mobility-Office.

Ceedo Personal supports Windows 2000, XP and Vista.

Availability

Ceedo Personal comes pre-bundled on portable storage devices from a variety of manufacturers, including Seagate, Verbatim, Maxell, ExcelStor, Venzero and others.

A private-branded version of Ceedo Personal called PowerToGo is pre-bundled on USB flash drives manufactured by Lexar Media. If you decide to purchase Ceedo take note if your vendor ID and Product ID come up as 0 when purchasing a license, then you will not be able to purchase Ceedo for this device. (Check the Vendor and product ID before hand it will still let you purchase but you will get no license.)
