Development Workshop

Development Workshop (DW) is a non-profit organization providing assistance for poor and disadvantaged communities in the developing countries. Established in 1973. Works in more than 30 countries of Asia, Africa, the Americas.

Overview

The Organization promotes technical assistance, training, research projects, including the following spheres: shelter, basic services, infrastructure, livelihoods and local economic development, governance, post-conflict reconstruction and disaster mitigation. It is funded by non-government organizations, private citizens, national and international development agencies. DW is not a funding organization and it does does not raise funds directly from the public.

There are three main DW centres (Canada, France, Angola) and offices in Burkina Faso and Vietnam.

Development Workshop France (DWF) is a French NGO, and works in South East Asia and Western Africa. DWF undertakes actions in Central Viet Nam that help families, communities, community leaders and civil society reduce vulnerability to natural disasters and climate change and develop the safer environment and poverty reduction.

For its work in Vietnam DWF was awarded the 2008 World Habitat Award, and received the Thua Thien Hué Certificate of Merit in 2008 as well.

Development Workshop France works in collaboration with the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hué province and the Flood and Storm Control Committee, the Thua Thien Hué Consulting & Designing Construction Company, Hué, and Commune authorities. DW’s work builds on experience gained by DW in disaster and development related work in Viet Nam since 1989 on UNDP and Australian Aid supported projects in central and northern Viet Nam.^[1] It is supported by the EC Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) (2003–2009) and the Ford Foundation since 2007, and previously by Canadian International Development Aid (CIDA) and the Foundation Aide Viet Nam.

In 2008 DWF, by its declaration, exported its Vietnam expertise to Myanmar, to help victims of Cycloen Nargis, and in collaboration with Save the Children Alliance in Myanmar, takes part in the activities to strengthen schools to resist the impact of future cyclones and make children and their parents safer.

Development Workshop Angola initiated humanitarian network "Angonet", funded by UNDP,^[2] and in partnership with One World Action contributed to giving access to clean water for about 300,000 people in Angola.
