Football career
Born in Ávila, Castile and León, César was brought up through the Real Madrid youth ranks, and played his first professional season with the reserves. In 1998, he moved to Real Zaragoza, but represented mainly its B side in his first seasons.
In 2000–01's 18th round, César made his La Liga debuts, in a 4–2 home win against CA Osasuna, and scored in the match. After the Aragonese relegation in the following season, he served a two-year loan at UD Almería, in the second level.
César's Zaragoza career was blighted by injuries, as he only amassed 14 first team matches in five professional seasons. In a January 2005 match against Real Madrid, a tough challenge by Luís Figo would all but mean his untimely retirement,[1] completed in March 2007.[2]
