Rick Byers is the
Ontario Progressive Conservative Party candidate for Oakville in the forthcoming 2007 provincial election inOntario ,Canada .Career
Byers is the Managing Director and Group Head of Government Investment Banking with BMO Capital Markets.
For 15 years, he has specialized in infrastructure finance and public private partnerships. His projects include the redevelopment of Pearson Airport by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority; the commercialization of the Air Navigation system by NAV Canada; financing of the acquisition and expansion of highway 407; hospital and courthouse infrastructure in Ontario; and advising Atomic Energy of Canada on infrastructure projects.
Education
Byers is a Chartered Accountant, and holds an MBA from the University of Ottawa.
Community involvement
He has been involved in the Community Association of Oakville, a member of the Endowment Building Committee, past Vice-Chair of Halton Helping Hands (now called Links2Care), a Board Member of the Toronto Board of Trade, and a Governor of the Trinity College School.
Family
Born in Toronto, Byers moved to
Oakville, Ontario in 1991 with his wife, Margot. They have been married for 20 years and have three sons: Adrian, Peter, and Cameron.Political background
Prior to being an investment banker, Rick worked as a policy advisor to the Hon. Michael Wilson, former Finance Minister of Canada.
He first ran for office in Oakville as the
Progressive Conservative Party of Canada candidate in the 2000 federal election. He won 9,594 votes, finishing a distant third. In the 2004 federal election, he ran as Oakville'sConservative Party of Canada candidate, placing second with 19,524 votes.For the past two years, in his current role with Bank of Montreal, Byers has advised the Ontario Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal on the development of new hospitals in Ontario.
On January 17, 2007, he was nominated as Oakville’s Ontario PC Party candidate for the October 10 provincial election.
