- Link anchorman
Link Anchorman was a cartoon character spokesman for
The Children's Channel , a now defunct cable/satellite channel in the UK from1990 –1992 . Link Anchor Man was a spoof American-stylenews presenter and in many ways he was a web character before his time and a precursor of such characters asStrongbad andAsk a Ninja .The brainchild of producer, John Bonner, who wrote and animated each episode, it was voiced by
Tim Whitnall , as an egocentric American anchorman. Link would ask viewers to send in letters (e-mail was not so prevalent then) and would voice their opinions and animate their drawings, in an off-beat funny way; a kind of "Points of View " for kids. There was a prize of a mug and a badge for every letter featured. Viewers could never be certain when he was on; he appeared in the gaps between shows where advertisement space had not sold. A typical instalment would last about a minute. At his height, Bonner could make up to three episodes a day.Link ceased to be when Bonner moved to the U.S, and the Channel went though a re-brand shortly afterwards.
