Lechwe Secondary School

Lechwe Secondary School

Lechwe Secondary School is located in Kitwe, Zambia.

History

Lechwe was founded by Neil Molver and started with four pupils in July 1977 but only officially begun that September. Originally classes were held in the Church of Nazarene and an Evangelical church. By January 1978 the numbers had grown significantly, needing an additional Hindu Hall for classes. In May 1978 the schools current location was adopted. It consisted of an administration block and 8 classrooms. Lechwe remained a Primary school until 1992 when the first form one (8th grade) class was started, and the school grew rapidly from that point. In 1997 the first A level class graduated from the school. The school continued its progressive growth on the copperbelt and it flourished along with the mines. At the turn of the millennium the price of copper on the world market dropped and caused a decline in numbers at the school.
