Damascus, Syria.Sara Shamma (Arabic: سارة شما) (born November 26, 1975) is a Syrian artist and painter.
Shamma was born in Damascus, Syria. She began painting in 1979 at the age of four. From 1982 to 1985 she took drawing courses for children at the Adham Ismaiil Fine Arts Institute.
She went on to study at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University and graduated in 1998, and went on to teach at the Adham Ismaiil Fine Arts Institute from 1997 to 2000.
Sara is now one of the leading painters in Syria also a well known painter in the world.
She has been a full time artist since 1994.
Awards
- 2004: Honored by The presidential palace Damascus, Syria.
- 2004: Fourth Prize at the BP portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London, UK.
- 2001: First prize (the golden medal) in Lattakia biennial, Lattakia Syria.
- 2000: Second Prize in the Spanish cultural center art competition, Damascus, Syria.
- 2000: second prize in the British council art competition, Damascus Syria.
- 1998: second prize in the youth exhibition, organized by the fine arts syndicate, Damascus, Syria.
