An ex-journalist, he was involved in a famous incident where former
President of Romania Ion Iliescu called a colleague of his "You, animal!".Mazăre founded the "Telegraf" newspaper, the local
Neptun TV channel and entered business as a shareholder of the Conpress Holding. He joined the Democratic Party (PD) and was elected in theRomanian Chamber of Deputies in 1996. He later resigned due to "differences between electoral promises and realities of government".Radu Mazare will go to Brazil after his current mandate.Controversies
He is considered one of the top 300 richest people in Romania and is highly controversial due to accusations of being a Social Democratic Party (PSD) Local Baron. He controls a sizeable chunk of the media (TV stations and newspapers) and newspaper distribution networks in Constanţa County).
He is also known for having his name written on every project where the municipality was involved. For example, his name is written on every bus of the public transport of Constanţa.
