Luke Gorsett

Luke Gorsett (born May 28, 1985 in Denver, Colorado) is an outfielder for the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Florida State League. He went to Thomas Jefferson High School.

College

Gorsett played at Garden City Community College in 2004 and 2005. In 2004 he hit .314 with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs. In 2005 he was a 1st team NJCAA All-American, hitting .402 with 71 RBIs and led the nation with 24 home runs. After completing of his junior college career he transferred to Nebraska. In 2006 he hit .348 with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs, earning 1st team all-Big 12 honors and was a Dick Howser Trophy and Wallace Award finalist. Luke had a 19 game win streak from March 26 to April 23. In the early season Dairy Queen Classic tournament, he was named the most outstanding player, hitting .500 with two home runs and four RBIs in three games. He hit for the cycle against Notre Dame on March 3, becoming the 1st Husker to do so since 1995. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 7th round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft and signed with the team, skipping his senior year.

Minor League

After he got drafted he played with the State College Spikes, where he had a .211 average in 24 games. Gorsett started off the 2007 season playing for the Swing of the Quad Cities of the Midwest League, hitting .286 with 4 home runs, and 18 RBIs, 40 runs, 76 hits, 21 doubles and 2 triples in 77 games. He was promoted to Palm Beach on July 13.
