Lawrence Erlbaum Associates began as a small publisher of academic books in 1973. It publishes and distributes internationally and was first based in Hillsdale and later in Mahwah, New Jersey, USA.

Lawrence Erlbaum was bought by Taylor and Francis in 2006 and is in the process of moving its facilities to Philadelphia, PA.
