List of Heinlein planets

The following planets appear in the fictional works of Robert A. Heinlein.

Citizen of the Galaxy

* Akka — A planet where Creighton and Martha Rudbek were last seen alive.
* Far-Star — The planet Creighton and Martha Rudbek were headed to after Akka.
* Finster — A planet where "Sisu" trades. Populated by slug-like creatures which live in telepathic symbiosis with lemur-like creatures with delicate hands. They are fond of colourful picture books and pin-up pictures.
* Hekate — A planet where the Great Gathering is held. Has the finest shipyards in the explored Galaxy and is a licensed bottler of "Coca-Cola".
* Jubbul — A planet where Baslim first meets Thorby. With its capital at Jubbulpore, Jubbul is capital of the Nine Worlds and residence in chief of the Great Sargon.
* Losian — A planet where "Sisu" trades. Populated by a six-legged, two-mouthed race of aliens.
* Lotarf — A planet where "Sisu" trades. Famous for hard bargaining - "… if you buy a beer without an hour's dickering you're ahead." [cite book | author=Heinlein, Robert A | title=Citizen of the Galazy | pages=p114 | publisher=Puffin Books | year=1984 | id=ISBN 0-1403-1119X]
* Mars — A planet where Rudbek of Rudbek owns a domehome.
* Proxima — A planet with an embassy on Terra.
* Riff — Home planet of Colonel Brisby, Commanding Officer of Guard Cruiser "Hydra".
* Shiva III — A planet with a spaceport called New Finlandia. Registered home port of the Free Trader "Sisu" (Captain Fjalar Krausa).
* Terra (Earth) — Home planet of the human race.
* Thaf Beta VI — A planet through which Doctor Margaret Mader transits on her way home after her work in "Sisu" is complete.
* Thoth IV — A planet where "Sisu" trades. Mentioned only in passing.
* Ultima Thule — A Rim region Planet mentioned only in passing.
* Woolamurra — A planet where "Sisu" trades. The capital is New Melbourne and it appears to have been settled by Australians. Thorby contemplates jumping ship and Grandmother dies.

Starman Jones

* Beta Corvi III — A planet where the inhabitants are humanoid. Beta Corvi is a star in the constellation Corvus.
* Epsilon Ceti IV — A planet, mentioned only in passing, populated by "… intelligent but phlegmatic crustaceans" [cite book | author=Heinlein, Robert A | title=Starman Jones | pages=p8 | publisher=New England Library | year=1980 | id=ISBN 0-450-04799-7] . Epsilon Ceti is a multiple star in the constellation Cetus.
* Epsilon Gemini V — A planet populated by eight-foot tall Extra-terrestrials with more than one left arm and "… multiple eyes, like a wreath of yellow grapes around the head" [cite book | author=Heinlein, Robert A | title=Starman Jones | pages=p30 | publisher=New England Library | year=1980 | id=ISBN 0-450-04799-7] . Epsilon Gemini is a star in the constellation Gemini.
* Gamma Leonis VI(b) — A planet known as 'New Mars', where the native saurians are used as draft animals. Gamma Leonis is a binary star system in the constellation Leo.
* Garson's Planet — A planet of Theta Centauri. The least unpleasant of the thirteen planets of that star, with a surface gravity of 1.25 "g", an unbreathable methane atmosphere and very cold. The only reason it is settled is that it is relatively close to six plotted congruencies which makes it invaluable to interstellar transport.
* Hespera — A planet from which the spider puppy ("Pseudocanis hexapoda hesperae") 'Mr Chips' originates and home of Miss Eldreth (Ellie) Coburn.
* Mars — A planet where the inhabitants, when visiting Earth, wear "…trefoil sunglasses and respirators" [cite book | author=Heinlein, Robert A | title=Starman Jones | pages=p39 | publisher=New England Library | year=1980 | id=ISBN 0-450-04799-7] .
* Paldron — A planet inhabited by "…wealthy elephantine amphibians…" who are "…anything but gentle…" [cite book | author=Heinlein, Robert A | title=Starman Jones | pages=p57 | publisher=New England Library | year=1980 | id=ISBN 0-450-04799-7] .

Starship Troopers

* Terra (Earth) — Terran homeworld. Location of boot camp "Arthur Currie".
* Faraway — A Terran colony planet occupied by the Klendathu Arachnids.
* Hesperus — A Terran colony planet.
* Iskander — A Terran colony planet.
* Klendathu — Home planet of the Arachnids. Location of "Operation Bughouse".
* Planet P — A planet occupied by the Arachnids as a forward base, attacked and excavated by the Terran Mobile Infantry in "Operation Royalty". Location of first captured Arachnid leaders, and 3rd Lt. Juan Rico's first command as an (probationary) officer.
* Sanctuary — A planet with an orbital stardock. A Mobile Infantry/Navy headquarters, R&R station, and backup headquarters of the Terran Federation. Its location was a carefully maintained secret enforced by implanted suicide orders in astrogation officers should they be captured. Described by Rico as being "like Earth, but retarded" due to a lack of Earth-like natural background radiation that prompted mutation and evolution of life.
* Sheol — An Arachnid colony planet, decimated by the Terrans.

Time Enough for Love

* Blessed — A theocratic planet with a state-supported slave trade.
* New Beginnings — A colony planet colonized by Lazarus Long under the pseudonym 'Ernest Gibbons'.
* Ormuzd — A planet that suffered a quarter of a billion dead during a plague.
* Secundus — A planet colonized by the Howards in c2250.
* Tertius — A planet colonized by the Howards in c4300.

Time for the Stars

* Capella VIII — A planet (presumably of one of the binary pair Capella A/B in the constellation Auriga) mentioned only in passing.
* Ceres — A dwarf planet for which a campaign ribbon was awarded.
* Constance — A planet in the Tau Ceti system. The first planet discovered by the Torchship "Lewis and Clark"
* Elysia — A planet in the Beta Ceti system. Inhabited by large amphibians.
* Ganymede — A moon of Jupiter from which the simultaneity of telepathy was established.
* Inferno — A planet of the Beta Hydri system. Surface gravity is twice that of Earth and temperature is such that ammonia is liquid i.e. between -77.73 °C (195.42 K) and -33.34 °C (239.81 K).
* Jupiter — A planet, some moons of which, were open for emigration.
* Mars — A planet which was open for emigration and on which a "horrible mistake" [cite book | author=Heinlein, Robert A | title=Time for the Stars | pages=p120 | publisher=Ballantine Books (Del Ray imprint) | year=1978 | id=ISBN 0-345-26073-2] was made during first contact with unspecified aliens.
* Pluto — A planet (although no longer recognised as such), the first Governor of which was the youngest child of a large family.
* Venus — A planet which was open for emigration.
* Whistle Stop — A planet of an un-named star in (from Earth) the constellation Phoenix. Noted as "…not worth a stop." [cite book | author=Heinlein, Robert A | title=Time for the Stars | pages=p139 | publisher=Ballantine Books (Del Ray imprint) | year=1978 | id=ISBN 0-345-26073-2]

* Byer's Planet — A planet scheduled for 'pacification'.
* Heavenly Mountains — A planet which is being colonized by the Australasian Republic. Its official designation is GO-8703-IV.
* Mithra — A planet where the dangerous snow ape lives.
* New Canaan — A colony planet described as a "rose without thorns".
* Ratoon — A planet which is occupied by non-humans but has diplomatic ties with Earth.
* Spica IV — A planet where Bessemer's Griffin lives, an extremely tough to kill predator with no central nervous system.
* Tangaroa — A planet which is used as a location for the final examination in Advanced Survival. Its official designation is GO-73901-II.
* Territa — A colony planet located near the Hyades.
* Thule — A planet mentioned in passing.
