HMS Pandora

Five vessels of the Royal Navy have been named HMS "Pandora" after the mythological Pandora:

* "Pandora", launched in 1779, was a 24-gun frigate. She was sent to capture the "Bounty" mutineers in 1790 and ran aground 1791.
* "Pandora", launched in 1859, was a "Philomel"-class wooden gunboat. She was sold in 1875.
* "Pandora", launched in 1889, was a "Pearl"-class cruiser. She was renamed "Katoomba" and sold in 1906.
* "Pandora", launched in 1900, was a "Pelorus"-class cruiser. She was scrapped in 1913.
* "Pandora" (N42), launched in 1929, was a P-class submarine. She served in World War II and was sunk at Valletta, Malta by Italian aircraft on 1 April 1942.

A fictitious British warship of this name is the setting of the William Golding trilogy "To the Ends of the Earth."
