- Gilbert Morgan
Reverend Dr. Gilbert Morgan is generally numbered as the second chancellor of the
University of Pittsburgh , then called the Western University of Pennsylvania, serving only one year from 1835 to 1836, although Morgan's official title at the time was "President". Morgan was the first head of the University to be given the title "President". Morgan was appointed by the University Board of Trustees in 1835 following recommendations from his associates atUnion College . His short tenure as President was considered mostly unsuccessful and he resigned only a year later to accept a position inNorth Carolina at a school for young ladies.
