- Caramac
Caramac is the brand name for a caramel flavoured bar manufactured by
Nestlé . Originally it was launched by Mackintosh (laterRowntree Mackintosh ) in 1959. The name Caramac was derived from the syllabic abbreviation of caramel and Mackintosh.Coloured pale yellow, the bar is divided into sections and made thin, so as to keep its sweet taste from becoming overbearing. The unique flavour is maintained using sweetened
condensed milk ,butter and various artificialflavouring s, as well assugar . It is packaged in a red and yellow wrapper.A similar confection is used in the covering of
McVitie's Gold biscuit bar. A limited edition Caramac KitKat bar was released in the UK in 2005 and due to popular demand it has been brought back in 2007.During the 1980s and 90's a Caramac
easter egg was also available. The name of the product was determined by a competition winner. This was held around Norfolk, and won by Barbara Haistead. It was made at the old Norwich factory until the factory closed in 1996 when production transferred to
Fawdon inTyneside where it is still made. The Caramac was available in Canada during part of the 1970s.
