"Jaka Sembung" (also titled "The Warrior" for international distribution) is a 1981 Indonesian martial arts movie, based on a character of the same name on a comic book by Djair. Directed by Imam Tantowi, one of the best-known Indonesian action directors, "Jaka Sembung" has established its position as a classic Indonesian action movie.

ynopsis

The story is about a local warrior-freedom fighter named Jaka Sembung (played by Barry Prima) who fought against Dutch colonial army in Indonesia in 19th century. During the struggle he had to face a lot of hired warriors with supernatural power who work for the Dutch forces. Jaka Sembung himself, of course, is a warrior with supernatural power, too. The final showdown is between Jaka Sembung and Ki Item (played by W.D. Mochtar), a warrior with magical power - his organs (hands, feet, head, etc) may be cut off his body, but as long as it touches the ground, the organs will return. Only by his wit and skills Jaka Sembung can finally defeat this deadly warrior.

Jaka Sembung has many sequels, such as "Jaka Sembung Vs Si Buta" (The Warrior against Blind Swordsman), "Bajing Ireng vs Jaka Sembung" (Jaka Sembung vs the Ninja), "Jaka Sembung and Dewi Samudra", and "Jaka Sembung vs Bergola Ijo".
