Igor Lukšić (born 1976 in Bar,
SR Montenegro ,Yugoslavia ) is Montenegrin politician who is currently the Minister of Finance in theGovernment of Montenegro . His family roots trace back to Crmnica (one of the regions of old Montenegro).Political background
In 1998, Lukšić graduated from the Faculty of Economics in
Podgorica . In 2000, he finished postgraduate studies in the same faculty and in 2002, obtained his MA degree. In 2003, he was the advisor to the Prime Minister in the area of Public Relations, along with being the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs ofSerbia and Montenegro . On16 February 2004 , he was appointed Minister of Finance of Montenegro by then-Prime MinisterMilo Đukanović . He received a PhD in Economics on10 September 2005 . On3 October 2006 , Đukanović announced that he will not be a candidate for the position of Prime Minister and first chose Igor Lukšić as his first candidate for Prime Minister. Instead,Željko Šturanović was chosen as his successor and became Prime Minister as per a compromise between Đukanović andSvetozar Marović .Besides speaking his native Montenegrin, he also speaks English, French and Italian.
