Barre, Massachusetts , Jenkins located inWashington County, New York , in 1817.He pursued an academic course.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1825 and commenced practice inOneida Castle, New York .He moved toVernon, New York , in 1832.He was attorney for the Oneida Indians in their dealings with the State of New York 1838-1845.He served as district attorney for Oneida County 1840-1845.Jenkins was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-ninth and Thirtieth Congresses (
March 4 ,1845 -March 3 ,1849 ).He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1848 to the Thirty-first Congress.Jenkins was elected to the Thirty-second Congress (
March 4 ,1851 -March 3 ,1853 ).He served as chairman of the Committee on Private Land Claims (Thirty-second Congress).He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1852 to the Thirty-third Congress.He served as delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1856 and was thereafter a Republican.He died inMartinsburg, New York ,December 24 ,1859 .He was interred in the City Cemetery,Oneida Castle, New York .ource
