Silas Mainville Burroughs (politician)

Silas Mainville Burroughs (July 16, 1810 - June 3, 1860) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Ovid, New York, Burroughs completed a preparatory course. Village clerk of Medina, New York, in 1835. Village trustee in 1836 and 1839-1843.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in Orleans County in 1840 and commenced practice in Medina. Again trustee of Medina 1845-1847. Village attorney 1845-1847.He served as brigadier general in the New York State Militia 1848-1858.He served as member of the State assembly in 1837, 1850, 1851, and 1853.

Burroughs was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses and served from March 4, 1857, until his death in Medina, New York, June 3, 1860.He was interred in Boxwood Cemetery.
