July 16 ,1810 -June 3 ,1860 ) was a U.S. Representative fromNew York .Born in
Ovid, New York , Burroughs completed a preparatory course. Village clerk ofMedina, New York , in 1835. Village trustee in 1836 and 1839-1843.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in Orleans County in 1840 and commenced practice in Medina. Again trustee of Medina 1845-1847. Village attorney 1845-1847.He served as brigadier general in the New York State Militia 1848-1858.He served as member of the State assembly in 1837, 1850, 1851, and 1853.Burroughs was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses and served from
March 4 ,1857 , until his death inMedina, New York ,June 3 ,1860 .He was interred in Boxwood Cemetery.References
