Luther Badger (
April 10 ,1785 - 1869) was aUnited States Representative from New York.Born in Partridgefield, Massachusetts (now
Peru, Massachusetts ), Badger moved with his father to New York in 1786. He attendedHamilton College in 1807 and studied law; in 1812 he was admitted to the bar in and commenced practice inJamesville, New York . From 1819 to 1827 he served asjudge advocate of the Twenty-seventh Brigade,New York Militia .Badger was elected as an Adams to the Nineteenth Congress (
March 4 ,1825 -March 3 ,1827 ).He resumed the practice of his profession and moved to
Broome County in 1832. From 1833 to 1847 he wasExaminer inchancery ; he was appointed commissioner of United States loans in 1840, and served until 1843.Badger was elected
district attorney of Broome County and served fromJuly 5 ,1847 , until his resignation in November 1849. He resumed the practice of law inJordan, New York , where he died in 1869. His remains were interred in Jordan Cemetery.References
