Essex, New York , Ross Instructed by private tutors.He was graduated from Columbia College, New York City, in 1808.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice inEssex, New York . During the War of 1812 served as second lieutenant and adjutant in the Thirty-seventh Infantry Regiment, New York State Militia, at the Battle of Boquet River,Willsboro, New York , and at the Battle ofPlattsburg, New York . Subsequently rose to the rank of major general.Ross was elected as an Adams candidate to the Nineteenth Congress (
March 4 ,1825 -March 3 ,1827 ).He resumed the practice of law inEssex, New York . County judge of Essex County in 1847 and 1848.He served as presidential elector on the Whig ticket in 1848.He resumed the practice of his profession.He died inEssex, New York ,September 14 ,1862 .He was interred in a vault on his family place, "Hickory Hill," Essex, New York.ource
