Elijah Spencer

Elijah Spencer (1775 - December 151852) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Columbia County, New York, Spencer received a limited education.He moved to Jerusalem (later Benton), New York, in 1791 and engaged in agricultural pursuits. Supervisor of the town of Benton 1810-1819.He served as member of the state assembly in 1819.

Spencer was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Seventeenth Congress (March 41821 - March 31823). Again supervisor of Benton 1826-1828.He served as member of the state constitutional convention in 1846.He resumed agricultural pursuits.He died in Benton, New York, December 151852.He was interred in Lake View Cemetery, Penn Yan, New York.
