William Fletcher Sapp (
November 20 ,1824 -November 22 ,1890 ) was a U.S. Representative fromIowa , nephew ofWilliam R. Sapp .Born in
Danville, Ohio , Sapp attended the public schools andMartinsburg Academy .He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1850 and commenced practice inMount Vernon, Ohio .He was an unsuccessful candidate for prosecuting attorney of Knox County in 1850.Sapp was elected prosecuting attorney of Knox County in 1854 and 1856.He moved to
Omaha, Nebraska , in 1860.He was appointed adjutant general of Nebraska Territory in 1861.He served as member of the Territorial legislative council.He entered theUnion Army in 1862 as lieutenant colonel of the Second Nebraska Cavalry and served until mustered out.He moved toCouncil Bluffs, Iowa , and resumed the practice of law.He served as member of the State house of representatives in 1865. United States district attorney for Iowa 1869-1873.Sapp was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fifth and Forty-sixth Congresses (
March 4 ,1877 -March 3 ,1881 ).He was not a candidate for renomination in 1880.He resumed the practice of law.He died inCouncil Bluffs, Iowa ,November 22 ,1890 .He was interred in Mound View Cemetery,Mount Vernon, Ohio .References
